The U.S. Constitution

The U.S. Constitution begins with the immortal words, “We the People of the United States…” But for most Americans, what follows is often a blur. This 100-page graphic novel explores the creation of the Constitution and brings this foundational document to life, amendment by amendment, and makes clear why this founding document is the bedrock of our republic. As Abraham Lincoln once said, the Constitution must be protected because “it is the only safeguard of our liberties.”

The story of the Constitutional Convention and the debates that took place in the forging of the U.S. Constitution. The story is narrated by the famous black preacher Richard Allen who started the first African-American church in Philadelphia in 1787 - the same year and the same city where the Constitution was being created. In these two parallel stories we see the Founding Fathers creating the document that guides our freedoms and on the other hand, we see the story of Richard Allen and the black church in America, which wouldn't reap those freedoms for many years to come.
